Puppet Show & Overhead Projector in 2010?

I'm a child that was born in 70's and came of age in the the 80's and sitting in front of a Overhead Projector is not a experience I am unfamiliar with. This week I had the privilege to be a participant in a class on Accelerated Learning concepts that was conducted by Dave Meier. I believe he was about 77 years old and still was a very effective speaker. I will probably blog about lots of the things that I learned in this class, but I wanted to share one that blew me away. Can you believe that not one powerpoint slide was used? Not one. His presentation was all on "Old School" overheads. He used this medium so effectively I was blown away he did "photo montages", review slides and even several puppet shows to deliver his information; this all included "special effects" where he would move around the slides in a very entertaining manner. I wish I had captured video of the puppet shows.

One thing that I got as an educator and trainer from this aspect of his presentation is that technology must continue to be secondary to education, collaboration and training. We can't depend on the device itself to help people to learn, they must always be considered as mediation of the human interactions and not replacements.

Check Dave Meir out. You can find his products and seminar schedule on www.alcenter.com. More to come on all the things I learned.

Mequel: It sounds like he injected his own personality into the presentation which is something we sometimes forget to do as students. I look forward to hearing more about Mr. Meir.
